Guide to Liberation

Guide to Liberation

This Project has evolved beyond my initial idea. In fact to be honest with you , it has taken on a life of its own. I started with just a little series of monotone designs and it has evolved into a interactive comunity based project with the goal of an actual publication. It has evolved into a series of videos that I could never had seen coming. For real folks, this is some kinda crazy to me. But I have been using this quote to describe THAT.

“I imply I began this ‘project’, let me amend that by saying the ‘project’ began itself out of its own need to be. I have acted as vehicle.” – adapted from Floyd B. Barbour introduction to “The Black Power Revolt”

So a series of t-shirts has grown into quite possibly a year long community driven project. My hopes and aspirations are out of control on this one folks and not even the sky is the limit. Calling this project ‘provoking’ is an understatement.

“We won’t fight to save the present society….We are just going to work, in the way we see fit, and on goals we define, not for civil rights but for all our human rights.”

The Black panthers had a ten point program to demand the necessary actions that would liberate their people. That was 1966.

We truly believe in the evolution of the Ten Point program, and other programs like it,  as list of actions rather than demands. Instead of we want, its we will. Rather than depending on someone else to take action on a demand, we’re prepared and willing to perform these actions ourselves, of our own will.

Sam Greenlee once said, “We cannot beg for crumbs off the white man’s table, we should be baking our own bread and building our own tables.”

Slavery never ended and the poor are exploited on a more massive indirect stage today. Instead of shackles and chains, we are imprisoned by lack of education, poverty and force fed media. “A powerful few have been maintained and enriched at the expense of the poor and voiceless colored masses…” – Stokely Carmichael

The reality is that this nation, from top to bottom, is racist; that racism is not primarily a problem of ”human relations” but of an exploitation maintained, either actively or through silence, by the society as a whole. - Stokely Carmichael

The Guide to Liberation project aims to aggregate rules and actions for reference on freeing ourselves from tentacles of exploitation and oppression. Our goal is to produce a small publication of the Guidebook to share within our communities based on the communities’ submissions.
